[ Kirk pockets his phone as he listens, shaking his head around the end. He holds his hands up as he talks, ]
It did happen and that's why we're afraid it could happen again. People like this fucker... they aren't going to approach it like that. Like 'oh, they haven't done it this whole time so why would they bother now'. Their logic is twisted, skewed if not completely absent. And this guy, especially, he wants people to suffer.
[There was a logic there that TJ couldn't exactly refute, though something in him deeply wanted to. Wanted to downplay, minimize, and otherwise move past everything he'd seen in that video.
Like if he ignored it, it wouldn't be real and no one he cared about would be in danger from this sick person.]
Well then why ain't you worried about yourself? This shit isn't just about me, man!
[It was a sobering statement, and for a few moments it looked as if TJ's mask slipped some.]
Yeah, well, me neither.
[And just like that, the expression of hopelessness and fear was replaced by something stronger. Something that blocked Kirk out again, away from the very real anxiety just below the surface.]
[ It's the truth; Kirk has no real way of knowing how his crew is or when he'll see them next. He wants to believe he will, some day, but he can't lie to himself and pretend he knows exactly when that will be.
He sees something change in TJ's face - it stands out too much for him not to notice - but it isn't there for long. Jim sighs heavily, looking down and running a hand through his hair, frustrated and tense over this whole thing. ]
Look. I'm not saying "don't go out" or anything but you need to at least be aware.
[ Looking back up at TJ. ]
Take it seriously and don't assume they won't try it again just because they haven't yet. Be careful.
[The earnestness in Kirk's request spawned guilt deep in TJ's gut. The guy had been through enough, that much he knew from snippets and hints, but damnit, Jim, he's worried about you, too.]
Well then you gotta follow your own rules. [TJ's frown deepened, a little more nakedly desperate.] Take care of yourself. Please.
[ Kirk would be glad to tell it. Same about space diving. Being in danger was all apart of his job description. He has never been the kind of captain to sit back and let his crew do all the work or put themselves on the front lines. Not without Kirk right there with them.
Jim gives a smile, too, ducking his head slightly, ]
Because I'm grounded on a planet with the rest of you landwalkers.
[But TJ's smile only grew in size as he let out a sigh. Today had been... a time, to say the least. Most of what he wanted was to take a run, but with Amal's promise looming overhead, that wasn't an option.]
If this keeps up too much longer... [He cast a furtive glance towards the door.] Promise me you'll sneak me outta here for a while. I get cooped up too long I go a little nuts.
[ Kirk stares at TJ after hearing that request, giving his own glance towards the stairs leading up to the apartment, where he assumes Amal is. Looking back at TJ, voice lowered some, ]
I can try.
[ Because what is self-preservation. Kirk's pissed off a Vulcan. An overprotective boyfriend isn't that much worse.

If I can escape a black hole, I think I can take care of myself here.
[ This guy comes after him, he'll be getting more than he bargained for. ]

You're a saint, man. [TJ's smile was still thin, bearing signs of exhaustion, but the relief was genuine.] A gentleman and a scholar.

I believe that's called "false advertising".
